Time To … – BIG headquarters

Tobias Rehberger developed seven image-object combinations for several designated public areas in the BIG headquarters. These installations are both items of daily use and sculptures. The artist explores the boundaries between art and design, while reflecting on the various ways of seeing and on the conditions of art.

Rehberger applied colourful LED lights onto large-scale, abstract murals he created with acrylic paints. At the same time, these lights show the time. Each timepiece consists of 12 illuminated fields that show the hours, five for the units of ten, and nine for the minutes. Users can tell the time by counting the fields. In this way, time is not only measured objectively, but is also felt – lifetime, working time, waiting time – and possibly understood.
