On 22 September 2017, Gelatin won BIG’s Kunst & Bau competition for the BG/BRG/BORG Lessinggasse school with their project entitled MYX.
The judges explained their decision as follows:
“The MYX sculpture designed by the artist collective Gelatin is a powerful emblem that gives the school a sense of identity and aims to encourage a humorous approach to everyday life. As such, it creates an atmosphere of exuberant contemplation. The fantastical creature, which is about 4m tall, is mounted on top of the smoke extraction system in the courtyard and stands for wit and the courage to think and create the extraordinary. It allows a playful approach to mythology, literature and deductive reasoning and encourages outside-the-box thinking. The name MYX comes from the word “myxa” (mucus, slime) and alludes to bodily fluids, which were thought to be the seat of humour in ancient times.”
