Karin Sander’s work Transzendenzaufzug (Transcendence Lift) for the University of Art and Design in Linz is based on the idea of the cargo lift as a central tool of the institution and highlights its importance for art in more ways than one: She extends the glass lift beyond the roof of the left bridgehead building by adding a glass structure, thereby turning it into a small observation tower that affords a stunning 360° view of the city. This illuminated section of the lift does not have exits, but is more of a walk-in light sculpture in which people and/or objects become visible from the outside.
