In early 2012, raumlabor berlin won BIG’s artistic competition for the design of three exercise yards at Eisenstadt Penal Institution.
The judges explained their unanimous decision as follows:
“The main quality of raumlabor berlin’s concept is its artistic diversity and integration of the social needs at the facility. On the one hand, they integrated the interesting fence panorama as an artistic element; on the other, they thought about how to give the inmates the best possible use of the yards. On top of that, the design of the watch tower as a sculptural element blends into the overall design in an interesting way.”
