On 13 December 2013, the artists Claudia Märzendorfer and Rudi Klein won BIG’s artistic competition for a temporary work on the conference floor at the BIG headquarters. Upon the judging committee’s recommendation, Claudia Märzendorfer’s project will be realised first and then replaced with Rudi Klein’s work two years later.
The judges explained their decision as follows:
“Of the four proposals submitted, we chose those we received from Claudia Märzendorfer and Rudi Klein, as these most intensively delved into the topic of BIG and the space designated for the artwork.
The compelling thing about Märzendorfer’s design is its subtle and simple texture that stretches along the entire hallway. The drawing both confuses and opens up in equal measure. It can be viewed from all sides and does not require one particular perspective to get the ideal view; the architecture and the artwork merge into a unit.
Rudi Klein’s design is a comic strip without words that guides visitors through the hallway while telling a story. It allows the imagination to run wild, and a complementary comic reveals the story. The motif plays with BIG and its work.”
