The buildings managed by the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG) are home to several thousand artworks, ranging from some 40 BIG ART projects and numerous Art & Architecture commissions to objects of major art-historical and architectural importance. These include paintings, sculptures, mosaics and murals, as well as façade designs, stucco work, frescoes, historic tiled stoves, stained-glass windows and lighting fixtures.
This exceptionally diverse array of works unites many different periods, materials and styles, reflecting the changing role of art in public space and documenting cultural developments across both past and present contexts. Beyond their art-historical significance, many of the works in the BIG collection also carry considerable scientific and educational value. Their documentation, preservation and, where necessary, restoration are vital to safeguarding this heritage for future generations.
